We're pleased to offer the following services in our Jacksonville Veterinary Clinic:
Our appointment book is computerized which allows us to efficiently make appointments for you and your pet. Our receptionists and team will attempt to accommodate all requests to the best of our ability. We are open for scheduled appointments from:
- Monday to Friday: 7:30am - 6pm
- You can also drop off your pet for the day for no additional charge
Emergencies are accepted anytime our clinic is open. If you feel you have an emergency with your pet, please call us or come to the hospital immediately. If possible it is best to call before coming in so that a staff member can advise you on your particular emergency.
We have a veterinarian and personnel on duty 5 days a week who are trained and equipped to handle any urgent care your pet has. Usually an emergency team consists of at least one veterinarian and several technicians working together to save a pet's life. Emergencies can be things such a snail bait poisoning, hit by car, and chocolate ingestion. If you ever feel that your pet needs emergency treatment do not hesitate to call or come in immediately. If possible it is best to call before coming in so that a team member can advise you on your particular emergency.
We are also available for urgent care when the condition is not life-threatening, but you feel your pet needs to be seen before you are able to get an appointment. Our veterinarians will work to "squeeze" you in between scheduled appointments. When you arrive, our receptionists will be able to give you an estimate on how long you may have to wait in order to be seen.
Boarding and Grooming
At Arlington Animal Hospital, we understand how hard it can be to find someone to give the same love and care to your pets as you do, which is why we have highly qualified kennel attendants on staff to provide those services when boarding your pets or when you just simply leave them for the day. Not only do we have an enclosed kennel and yard for your dogs to run around and play in, but we also provide separated kitty condos for your favorite felines. Every pet that gets to vacation with us also gets to have a "spa" day which includes not only an ear flush but a nail trim as well. Feel free to call during our office hours to find out more information about our boarding and grooming services, or to reserve a room for your pet
Here at Arlington Animal Hospital we have a state of the art digital x-ray system. Digital x-rays mean a clearer picture and instant images for the quickest and most accurate diagnosing. All x-rays are read in house by Dr. Cook for immediate results and a digital copy is given to you at no additional charge for you to keep. In some cases x-rays may also be sent out to a board-certified radiologist for consultation. This ensures the most comprehensive and accurate interpretations, and gives you the most for your money.
We offer comprehensive dental cleanings at Arlington Animal Hospital because pets need dental cleanings too! Periodontal disease is the most common clinical condition occurring in adult dogs and cats. By three years of age, most dogs and cats have some evidence of periodontal disease.
• Signs of oral and dental diseases in dogs and cats can consist of:
- Bad breath.
- Loose teeth or teeth that are discolored or covered in tartar.
- Your pet shies away from you when you touch the mouth area.
- Drooling or dropping food from the mouth.
- Bleeding from the mouth.
- Loss of appetite or loss of weight (this combination can result from diseases of many organs, and early veterinary examination is important).
Treatment consists of general anesthesia to ultrasonically scale, polish and examine all teeth. All teeth are examined for deep pockets or mobility indicating root disease and a need for extractions, fractured teeth, or oral growths or tumors. Typically, pets will need professional dental cleanings annually.
We perform a variety of different surgical procedures from healthy elective surgeries such as spays, neuters, or declaws to more intense, life-saving operations such as cancerous tumor removals, abdominal exploratory to remove foreign bodies causing intestinal blockage, bladder surgery to remove stones, and certain orthopedic (bone) surgeries. All patients presenting for surgery will first pass a physical exam by Dr. Cook and have a pre-anesthetic blood work panel done to ensure the pet is healthy enough to undergo anesthesia and surgery. All patients are monitored while undergoing surgery by our trained staff and by equipment that monitors heart rate and rhythm, oxygen saturation, and respiratory rate. An intravenous catheter is placed and IV fluids are given throughout the procedure to promote healthy blood pressure and to have venous access should an emergency situation arise.
Internal Medicine and Diagnostics
When our pets are sick it can be a scary time, especially because they cannot tell us what is wrong. Because of this, many times several tests need to be run to pinpoint exactly what is causing the problem. We have many different diagnostic options that can be performed either in house or sent to an outside lab to accurately diagnose the problem and get started on the appropriate treatment. Dr. Cook will take the time to discuss all the diagnostic options available and work with you to formulate the best treatment plan possible for your pet.
Annual Wellness Exams and Vaccines
Pets age faster then people, so keeping up with their annual exams will ensure the best health for your pet! For our senior pets (those 7 and older), we highly recommend yearly senior wellness blood work and for certain breeds, abdominal x-rays as well. By routinely performing these tests, we are able to diagnose diseases much earlier in their course and cure or manage them much easier allowing your pet to live a longer and happier life.
